Today I took care of MeiLan at No.2 Enclosure.
In the morning, although we had to clean her
outside den, MeiLan prefered to stay outside,
and no matter how hard we tried to call her inside,
she never came back. All the other Pandas were
inside early in the morning because of the hot and
humid weather. Maybe MeiLan needed some
time alone outside.
This is MeiLan in the afternoon.
When we came back, she was still fast asleep on her
platform. We called her name so many times,
but she ignored us and stayed on her favorite spot.
So in the end, we tried to attract her with
her favorite Panda Cakes.
At last MeiLan woke up!!!
She slowly walks down her platform,
ready for her Panda Cakes.
I was so glad that at last I could see her close up.
MeiLan walked straight towards her Panda Cake.
MeiLan is a princess.
She pretended that she didn't care about her Panda Cakes.
She didn't want everyone to think she's greedy!
She looked a side for a while.
But she was hungry!
Now she couldn't keep her eyes off her Panda Cakes.
I called her name many times and begged her to come inside.
(And of course in English.)
MeiLan walked around for a while,
and striked a pose in front of everyone.
She knows that she should act like a princess to
all the people that were watching her.
Then she rushes back inside.
She rememberd that Panda Cakes were waiting for her.
At last she got her Panda cakes.
I was very happy to feed her.
MeiLan seemed to be very happy to have her
Panda Cakes.
"Thank you for being patient for me today,
I love Panda Cakes, but I prefer to stay outside
too. It's hard to choose, you know what I mean?"
These are apples for all the Pandas in this enclosure.
We put lots of vitamins in the apples so that
the Pandas won't realize that they are taking them.
After eating all her Panda Cakes and apples,
again it was time for MeiLan to take a nap.
Now she has airconditioning, and she can
sleep as much as she likes for the rest of the day.
According to the keepers (and from my observation),
it seems that MeiLan sleeps a lot. Apart from
her eating time, she spends most of her time
sleeping peacefully. It's fun just watching her
sleep. She sometimes opens her eyes to
make sure that I really don't have any food
in my hands to give her.
She was sleeping like this when I left her
enclosure this afternoon.
I wonder if she is really having a tight sleep?
Tomorrow I will take care of the
four 2009 born cubs at the Young Cubs Enclosure.
