MeiLan@ No.2 Enclosure, CRBGPB

Today I went to No.2 Enclosure to take care of MeiLan.
These pictures are for all MeiLan lovers around the world,
especially in the USA.

MeiLan was born on 6 September 2006 at Zoo Atlanta.
Her father is YangYang and her mother is LunLun.
She came to Chengdu in 2010.

This is MeiLan in the morning, walking up to me to say Hi.

She started to eat bamboo.

She was very satisfied with the tasty bamboo today.

It was already near 30 degrees celcius in the morning,
and MeiLan started to take a nap. It must have been
so hot for her with thick beautiful fluffy fur all around her body.

Fist thing in the morning, I cleaned her inside enclosure.
Heavy feces and left over bamboo shoots everywhere,
even on her bed!!! Today her feces weighed 20kg.
She has good appetite and is healthy. Her weight is
around 100kg.

After cleaning her inside enclosure, I went to feed her
Panda cakes.

I gave MeiLan her morning excersize.
Although it was hot, she stood up and took a beautiful pose.

The cute thing about MeiLan is that
she cuts the Panda cake in half and
holds it in both her hands. She bites them
in turns.

"Is this a rude behaviour? Or do you think
people will love me for it?"

Lots of crumbs on her tummy.

MeiLan has thick white fur on her cheeks
that makes her so special.

"Oh no, it's tooooooooooooo hot!"

The keepers forgot to turn the water tub
in her pond this morning, and MeiLan
walked around to find water. The keepers
opened the water tub, and MeiLan stayed
in her pond to cool down.

Then she started to eat bamboo again.
Even from her back side, we can see her
thick fur on her cheeks.

Then we called her to come inside, and she shows her
pretty face between the bars.

"Hellooo, are you taking care of me today?
I'm a princess and all my fans are watching you
so please take good care of me"

We fed her with bamboo shoots inside.
In the inside enclosures, they have air conditioning
especially for the Pandas.

The weather in Chengdu is too hot these days,
and MeiLan and all the other Pandas stay
in their inside enclosure during the afternoon.
Unfortunately, she is not shown to the public
in the afternoon. She can have a good rest instead
with her own privacy, which is very good for her.

Tomorrow I will be at Sunshine Nursary in the
morning, and then at No.2 enclosure again in the afternoon
to take care of MeiLan and other Pandas there.

Sunshine Nursery, Quarantine, Moonlight Nursery and No.14 @CRBGPB

In the morning, I went to take pictures at the Sunshine Nursery.
This is YaYa taking care of one of the 2010 born cubs.
YaYa was busy eating bamboo shoot, and this cub wouldn't let
YaYa concentrate eating. He followed YaYa all along,
and showed off his charm to the audience.

These are the cute little cubs playing together in the morning.

They are waiting in front of the door for the keepers
to come inside and take care of them.

Some were already taking a nap on top of the tree.

This is JingJing at the Sunshine Nursary.
She lives next doors to ShuHin (QiuBang) and
ShuHin seems to like JingJing very much.
He was looking at JingJing from one of the doors
showing off his charm. And JingJing was getting excited
too, running and rolling around. They would make a
great couple.

This is WuYi at the Moonlight enclosure.
It was so hot today, and all the Pandas were taken inside.

The distance from YaZai is so far today.
I wonder what happened to their relationship.
They seemed to be so close a few days ago...

This is RyuHin (LongBang) at the No. 14 enclosure
enjoying his bamboo shoot.

In the afternoon, we prepared some special snacks for
RyuHin. Since he does not like Panda cakes so much
we put honey on the Panda cakes and tried to feed him
with chopsticks one by one.The keepers do this everyday.
RyuHin's keeper Li Han told me that once in the past
he put honey on Panda cakes without cutting them
and RyuHin licked all the honey and left over all the
Panda cakes. This is why we have to cut it into small peices.

But although we prepared the special snacks for
RyuHin, he did not pay any attention today.
His eyes were open, but he pretended that he didn't see us.

RyuHin broke his bed yesterday and
the workers have to build a new one for him.

In the afternoon, I went to the quarantine to meet
the three Pandas, YuanZi, HuanHuan and JiaoXiao.

This is the small outside playground.
Li Han told me that HuanHuan climbs the bars
on the ceiling, and acts like monkeys.
We were joking that HuanHuan might be a monkey
wearing panda costumes. He's never seen any other
Pandas behave this way.

This is JiaoXiao with lots of bamboo shoot on his tummy.

This is my favorite Panda, YuanZi.
Pambassador CiCi was taking care of him
last year with the three other young cubs at
the Young Cub's enclosure.
He is good at striking a pose,
and reminds me of GuGu at Beijing Zoo.

He's good at standing up, which means
he might be capable of natural mating in the future.

YuanZi thinks he can break the keys and escape
somewhere.

"I think I can break out some day."
He's planning to break out and play with
HuanHuan next doors.

Tomorrow I will take care of MeiLan at No. 2 Enclosure.
